Pilot Pen [22 Aug 2005|10:50am]

*Bad group mod, bad!* Heheh, sorry for being MIA lately, I've had the roughest week and needed to recover big time. Anyhow, Marcos is playing the Pilot Pen (now a mixed ATP & WTA event) and will take on Juan Ignacio Chela in R1. Here's the draw, as you can see Marcos is verrrry close to top seed Nikolai Davydenko, who's 43-21 on the year.

Eeeps! Marcos is the top seed at the Nottingham challenger. He's in the semis against 4th seeded Alex Bogdanovic of Britain; the other semi features Mark Hilton [5] vs Nicolas Mahut [2].

Here's Marcos' week so far:
QF d. [6] Jaime Delgado (GBR) 6-4 7-5
R2 d. Jan Vacek (CZE) 6-4 5-7 7-6(6)
R1 d. [Q] Rohan Bopanna (IND) 5-7 6-1 7-5

Augh! Another close one [07 Jun 2005|11:42am]

Augh augh augh! It was sooo close, I was watching the scoreboard (never a good idea for your nerves). He lost to PH Mathieu 6-4 6-7 4-6. He had broke back in last set too, augh augh it was so close! Once he fell to 0-40 and came all the way back to ad-40 only to get broken. Augh, such an aughsome match! Augh augh!

Anyway, match stats.Collapse )

Boo (Surbiton) [02 Jun 2005|11:01pm]

A. Delic (USA) beat M. Baghdatis (CYP) 6-2, 6-4

(And as for a bit of gossip: I saw Delic at the NCAA's a couple years back, he played for U of I, and his attitude was quite less than impressive ... you can never tell just by watching someone for a few hours who they are, and you don't want to judge someone too young, but he seemed quite arrogant and not afraid of gamesmanship. To be fair, lots of people try to kind of influence line calls and such, but I still was unimpressed. Then I remember on his little mini-bio spot aired I think during least year's US Open coverage he only seemed to reinforce my impression. Anyway, sorry for the character defamation, blame it on my disappointment at Marcos' loss!)

So ... yeah, nevermind :-( If my eyes aren't bugging, no Marcos on the draw. Rats!

Olbia Challenger [08 Apr 2005|02:36pm]

Hero-of-the-day goes to madetoheal00 for the heads up on Olbia (April 11-17).

No draw yet, but the acceptance list is out. Tipsarevic, Voltchkov, Sanguinetti, and Pless look to be the biggest names. As far as I can tell Marcos would be the second seed (he was ranked 92nd at the deadline, 90 now). Its the same ball as the FO but I'm not sure if the clay's the same.

(Tangentially: Arnaud DiPasquale's an alternate for a challenger? Since when did he slip so low!)

Where's Marcos? [03 Apr 2005|01:30pm]

Does anyone know what Marcos is up to? Is he still out with injury? I've written to Jon Wertheim (CNNSI Tennis) for an answer, 'cause I sure can't find one myself.
